our home – before + after / backyard

This is likely to be the last Before + After I do for a while. We decided to sell our house a little while ago which is why there was a mad rush to finish the renovations and a slight change of plans to the extent that we would renovate. We’re excited to look for our next little project in early 2012 so I’m sure these posts will resume at some stage as we sink our teeth into the next rundown little shack.

The backyard was one of the first things we started working on here but took a long time to complete. The original backyard consisted of a whole lot of concrete and not much else. It was horrible and dank with mozzies and weeds and huge piles of unswept leaves. When we first moved in a year ago we thought we’d at least try and add a bit of green by ripping up a small section of the concrete and building a vegie and herb patch.

Since then we’ve uplifted ALL of the concrete (5 tonne, bringing it through the house to the skip out the front) and brought in 3.5 tonne of soil (again through the house), laid turf, built lovely black stained planter boxes, installed a deck, planted a few pretty shrubs and generally just made it a nice place to be. When I say ‘we’ I really mean Bren. He did all this with a few days’ help from some mates and then I had the fun job of choosing and planting the green stuff.

The above two images are by Janine (thanks Janine!)
